Good Friday

I will wake up early and wear something bright and pick up my daughter and marvel at her sight.Eat drink be merry; however no wine will be poured; she’s to young and I don’t drink and he is Christ the Lord. There will be no talk of bunnies we will be talk about the Cross and what we are grateful for and why we feel loss. It’s early and it’s late and so much to still achieve… I hope I have the time and in my mind you never leave.Dennis Mantin

The Weary Travelers

He said, “You’re not alone… it’s a human condition, we’re all tired.”

He seemed sure of himself as if insights had been granted his way giving knowledge about all.

I never argued, perhaps too tired, perhaps I realized there was no way of knowing for me. “Perhaps you’re right.” I grinned and left.

The old guy used to whine that he was tired to the bone. “I wake up tired.” He would say each morning.

I just know that when I’m on vacation, walking the beach and swimming in the waves I seem less weary than when I work 16 hours a day.

Payday

I saw him at his best… Confident, arrogant, payday, dreams become reality. “Me and the boys are going to get some blow!”

The last I saw him at his low. The day after payday… Tired, hungover, broke jonesing His wheelbarrow was stuck in the mud; searching for solutions.

I will always remember that look in his eyes and my refusal to help. “Fuck you.” I thought… “I have been where you are and not helping you is what’s required.

There’s only one way out I know. Change direction… Head for the light. Pray
