The Secret Bank Account

I traveled to the Financial District to open a secret bank account… Armed with a cheque addressed to that bank and a fist full of cash, I somehow knew things wouldn’t go as planned.

THEY told me I had to make an appointment and return. I knew that wasn’t happening and left.

Outside the people from the Towers puff and suck and litter their lungs with such serious looks and with seldom a smile.

I was reminded of the Leonard Cohen line. “See that line passing through the station… I used to be one of those.”

Further up Young Street a police barricade framed a jumper who was anonymous and dead under an orange tarp.

The idea of the secret bank account fades with the notion that maybe I’m making too much money.

The Risk/Reward Component

It seems like a collective; as if they’re drawing water from the same well.

I hear the noise and see the struggle and often I feel the need to help and still do nothing but observe.

Yesterday I watched a young man on a streetcar rant and bemoan the fact that the streetcar was stopping at scheduled stops. He’d threw his arms up and said… ” Again with the stops… this is the reasons wars are started.”

This was followed by some racist rant which was followed by threats about unseen guns and knives…I wanted to say to him… do you know the sound fear makes? It talks very loud and very fast…I felt the risk reward component had the high potentiality to fuck with my chi, so I stayed silent…

Every Day is a Good Day

Ben McNally has the finest book store in Toronto… Ben responded to my suggestion that it was a nice day.

” At my age every day is a nice day. ”

Ben is not much older than me and I too have arrived at this conclusion.

Ah… the moments that make up a good day!

The Read

Reading books triggers me… and every now and then a book rocks my world in unexpected ways!

Many Lives, Many Masters is doing this now. Before that, The Power of Myth… Before that, Proverbs.

Not just to the information in the book, but dormant memories of something long forgotten or experienced and lost in that quagmire of time.

This is my pathway to riches.

What other pathways am I missing??For you can fill libraries with what I don’t know.

The Coma

The summer I was 9, I was in a coma for 2 days following a fall from a railway bridge…

I woke up in a darkened hospital hallway, naked under a hospital gown, with no memory of where I was or how I got there.

It’s taken north of 50 years for me to give any thought about where I was for those 2 days; when others wondered about whether I would live or die…

After I awoke… people talked about miracles and angels.

Perhaps I needed the rest?

A Bad Dream

I waited for her in the early darkness.

She appeared and I asked how she was.

” I just had a terrible nightmare.” She said.

“Well you’re safe now.” I replied and wondered if that was true.

I thought of John the bike courier who once said, “Life is a dream… when you wake up, you’re dead.”

I drove us into the darkness.

On a Good Day

On a good day… I’m ill tempered and cranky when in the company of others.

I can handle it long enough for a meal and quickly pay the bill and force smile goodbye.

I am never lonely or in a bad mood by myself…

I accept this as the gift it is.
