The Shopping Mall Generation

When I was a kid in the 1960s, the farmers could be heard lamenting about a changing world that they feared.

Beautiful stone cobbled streets of small towns were replaced with “The Shopping Mall Generation!” AND cities grew. “Who would grow the food?” The farmers asked.

But did anyone see this coming down the pike? A generation so smart that they make money while they sleep?

A generation who became so important that not having children became for them, the best option. Which is probably the best thing since we can no longer determine genders…

I am not afraid. I am not in control. I am embarrassed… or am I entertained?

      1. I saw this, thank you! I have a novel being published soon (my first) and am trying to determine how to best use social media to promote. I think you are the first person to repost something I wrote; so thank you for that! What do you call yourself? Kitti/Basu/Kutchi??

      1. I made a short film called The Meditation that won a couple of awards. I am hoping to make more. Very expensive. If you want to see it just Google- Dennis Mantin The Meditation – and it should come up.

    1. Ah!!!
What do you think of Bukowski? Also I probably recommended THE POWER OF MYTH by Joseph Campbell. If you want to be a good or great writer, nothing I know will help you understand yourself and humanity and the world we live in more than THE POWER OF MYTH.

      1. Bukowski in my assessment was a highly complex figure. I have been reading “Ham On Rye” and “Factotum” simultaneously and all I see is that was somewhat sad, deceived maybe. However to reduce him to two or three adjectives would be irresponsible of me. Therefore I’ll tell you what I think of him once I have gone all his books or at least some.
Yes, I remember, I tried to know more of ” THE POWER OF MYTH”, I’ve already read a couple of pages from that. I’ll tell you what I think once I’ve finished reading it.

  1. If you see Bukowski as sad, then maybe he’s not for you. He’s an alcoholic and he exposes a side of life rarely seen in literature from such a brutal honest fashion. He allows others to reach into themselves and reflect honesty in my opinion.

  2. I am intrigued by you. You are seeking. You want to write. You are looking for answers. You are young and beautiful. You have much going for you. Do you mind me asking you personal questions? Do you know what you want? Do you know what you are looking for?

  3. Interesting…
The only person I know who has ever accepted me and loved me is my daughter. People are generally too busy with their own thoughts and madness to accept and love others. However, it has been my experience that it happens with children if you treat them respectfully and honestly.

    1. I didn’t have an ideal childhood, I won’t get into the specifics here, I hope I can tell you everything someday. Oh you have a beautiful daughter Dennis, I have seen her pictures, lovely she is.

      1. I ask so to understand where you are at emotionally more than anything. I am very much a student of psychology. Age is a great starting point. I for example thought I knew everything at 20. I didn’t. Now I know that. Back then no one could tell me that, so for a time I was unteachable.

    1. I don’t like to talk about myself Dennis. I have a small circle of friends that I’m most comfortable with. I talk about myself only when I’ve known someone for some time, I hope you understand.

      1. Take all the time you need. I only want you to share with me if you are comfortable and trust me. If trust is not established then it’s impossible for any sort of positive friendship.
