Greg Reid’s Prayer

Once upon a time in the mid to late 1960’s in a distant land we sometimes said prayer before we ate in schools.

The following is the last time I remember any teacher asking any student to create a prayer for the class.

“Good bread, good meat, good God let’s eat.”

We all laughed 😅

Sister

I couldn’t see my sister.

She is the one who stands in rain.

There are scars and there’s a blister.

No effort to hide that pain.

I tried and tried and failed.

All the stories… Said, “please no more.”

Yes I ran away, I bailed.

Changed the locks upon that door.

Diamond Mine by James Cuddy & Greg Keelor Favorite Lyrics Series

I hear all these rumors about you. Trash lines up at my door just to bring me the news.

All it does is kind of make me wonder, why people so eager to be so cruel.

You say that the parties over. But like a drunken fool, I never know when to leave. It’s just that in the eyes of this beholder. You mean everything to me.

Cause when I look into your eyes. Our love shines… like a diamond mine.

Mother’s Day

I don’t think Mother’s get enough credit… There is great sacrifice in motherhood. Physical, emotional, financial… all of this and more.

The dependence that children have on their mothers is paramount.

My mother was Margaret MacIver and her mother was Mary who died when my mother was 13.

Margaret died when I was 11. I don’t know if I ever got over her passing.

My daughters mother lost the ability to cope with parenting when my daughter was 8 and although I have never given birth, I am a father and a mother to my girl; according to her.

I take the job and privilege of parenting as the highest priority in my life. I have learned that not everyone can be a parent in spite of the fact that they can give birth. There are many reasons for this and some of them are even valid…

Purple Rain-PRINCE

I could never be your weekend lover.

I just wanted to be some kind of friend.

Baby I could never take you from another.

It’s such a shame our friendship had to end.

Purple Rain.

I only want to see you bathing in the purple rain.

BROUHAHA

The drinks were in abundance.

The ice was cold and cubed.

The songs and myths were in a loop.

The tongues were loosely lubed.

Last call came at closing.

There was screaming in their throats.

With no one left to take them home.

And they were really feeling their oats.

The sun came out at midday.

The rays were bright and warm.

There were rumblings of a brouhaha.

Along with rumors of a storm.

Working Class Hero-Marianne Faithful

As soon as you’re born they make you feel small.

By giving you no time instead of it all.

Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all.

A working class hero is something to be.

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school.

Hate you if you’re clever and dispise a fool.

Till you’re so fucking crazy, you can’t follow their rules.

A working class hero is something to be.

You are all fucking peasants as far as I can see.

A working class hero is something to be.

Someone Special

The Wait is almost over. A strange feeling fills the air.

She walks in pain and out the door. With a strong dramatic flair.

I know I’m going to miss her . No specifics come to my mind.

I searched for someone special. Oh and special I did find.

Be careful what you wish for, I heard the old ones say.

Those words are ringing in my ears. Tears of joy are on the way.
