The Oceans

Every year she crosses the Atlantic to the scene of the crimes searching for virtues that can’t be located.

Perhaps it’s just acknowledgment of what they did or is it the utterance of an apology she seeks?

Once I reached the Indian Ocean with her and there we found some of the rascals wedged between servants ordering serfdom.

They lack the courage she seeks.

Once I got her in the Pacific near the equator and in one glorious moment I got the photo that captured her in all her beauty and I swear in that one moment she forgot all the resentments she harbours; and smiled at me.

I call this a miracle. Dennis Mantin

The Travel Dilemma

I have never felt so satisfied as when I was in Drake Bay Costa Rica.

I have swam in the Mediterranean in France and Italy and did see Rome.

The Indian Ocean in Bali was never a dream however that too was realized.

It’s Nova Scotia and particularly Cape Breton that I long for now… However I just don’t like leaving home in Toronto.Dennis Mantin

Eavesdropper Interloper

They’re getting louder now!

The humans on public transit…

Pronouncements are punctuated with attitude and distrustful anger.

I understand the single car driver’s, going nowhere fast; listening to whatever they choose.

Maybe it’s time to lease a gas guzzler and join Denis Leary… going slow in the ultra fast lane.

Speaking Truth to Power

Diogenes said to Alexander…

” Could you please get out of my light. ”

Alexander of Masedon was young then and not yet labelled ‘THE GREAT ‘ yet; however, he was a warrior capable of acts of violence! I’ve wondered why Alexander didn’t kill Diogenes in the moments that followed that famous comment about getting out of his light.

My new found friend Richard shed some light on this: ” Diogenes spoke truth to power. ”

Alexander wasn’t used to people telling him the truth. I imagine a wave of satisfaction passing through him as he said to his brother, ” Give that man whatever he wants. ”

Diogenes according to Richard just wanted a larger barrel to live in.

Imagine the light of truth ringing through Alexander as he watched Diogenes go through the market place holding a torch over his head saying,

” I’m looking for a man… I’m looking for an honest man. ”

Asian Women

I find myself so attracted to a particular type and have no idea when this began or if this is a type of prejudice towards all other races…

I find it’s not just the beauty which is undeniable; however it may also be the lack of drama that is so appealing.

And luckily for me there seems to be so few of them…

Quoting Van Gogh

I took the time that now seems a lifetime ago, to read some of his letters to his brother Theo and was left with the impression that his reputation for madness was exaggerated; and was left with the idea that he might be a better writer than he was a painter.

If that was possible!

Thanks to Luisa for posting part of this quote from Van Gogh and his skies…

” It is obvious that putting little white dots on the blue-black is not enough to paint a starry sky. ”

Fraser

My older cousin Fraser whom I haven’t seen in decades doesn’t remember me.

It’s a little unsettling to not register to someone’s mind when they’ve been so important to my memories.

Ah, further motivation to leave my mark with a wee bit more force.

The Delusional Dog

She said her Chinese sign was the dog.

“Determined, trustworthy loyal to a fault.”

I have learned to let things slide in the moment. Some would refer to it as avoiding confrontations or being dishonest…

I think much like her I have an entertaining inner life! I just keep my nonsense more private.Dennis Mantin

Dead End Cinema

She exaggerates like that drunken bum in the park who if you listen carefully is bragging of better days… in his youth when men were men and sheep were nervous and it wasn’t as grand as he claims; just bearable.

She exaggerates to keep her voice from going silent while searching for ears who haven’t turned deaf to to her moans of complaint and bitter disappointments and possibly drowning out the noise of the voices in her head.

It’s a lot to contend with and having escaped from this selfish prison I can tell her that you can’t begin to learn to listen until you stop talking.
