Play with the bull long enough and you will get a horn in the ARSE!!
You were warned about sleeping dogs! But NOOOOO!!
Ya wanted to poke the bear!
I may be out of animal references, but we are at the end of the rope here…

No rest for the wicked.
All those evil things I’ve done.
Got forgiveness and punched my ticket.
Except for you, the damage done!

I’ve always been a leader… Natural leader above all.
When I was just a baby I led baby marches by the crawl.
Influencer, public figure, I’m now a man about the town.
Or I might be a woman, it’s whatever’s going down.
If I post it and you’ll like it then you can be my friend.
I’m an influenced public figure I major at pretend.
All the other babies they gave me the brightest ball.
None of us could stand so there wasn’t far to fall.
Influencers and Public Figures… lift your faces from your phone.
Take a look around you, you do look so all alone.

The city eats them up.
They lose their way here…
It shows in their faces that their brand of bullshit isn’t working; not with this lot.
Their eyes aren’t focused on anything other than the fear.
They will go down unless they find another way to think and be.
The city eats them up.

Darkness fell, it wasn’t mood, it was just the time of day.
Said, “Oh well” I should include, I slept the night away.
The sun did rise, same as before, I knew was just for me.
Closed my eyes and heard the roar of an angry distant sea.
I heard of tales, happened long ago, long before our time.
Of people who had lived and loved with hearts of faith and rhyme.

NEW BOOK RELEASE!
Look Them in the Eyes
Dennis Mantin. Friesen Press, 2023
There are thirty-two ways to write a story, and I’ve used every one, but there is only one plot—things are not as they seem.
Jim Thompson

Following the birth of his daughter, Jackie, middle-aged Zach MacIver is determined to stop what he terms “intergenerational transmission of family dysfunction” from plaguing his family. Over the course of two years, from the time Jackie is eight until she turns ten, Zach recounts his life experiences to her while attempting to navigate the obstacles created by her mother, Tina, who is experiencing her own version of intergenerational transmission of family dysfunction. The story begins during the COVID-19 pandemic when the world and its inhabitants face mounting daily trials and life-altering decisions. From there the narrative proceeds in a non-linear fashion as Zach recounts the roots of his own dysfunction and how his love for his daughter and his desire to be a good father forced him to face his difficulties head on. American author Jim Thompson once wrote, “There are thirty-two ways to write a story, and I’ve used every one, but there is only one plot—things are not as they seem.” This story is a great reminder of that.
Available now to purchase in eBook, paper, and hardcover from Amazon, Friesen Press, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, Google Play, and Kobo.

Book I wish I could read again for the first time!
Dennis Mantin’s clean characterisation breathes life into the narrative, the realistic portrayal adds to the reader’s understanding of the book’s profound messages on life and people. What’s compelling about the novel is the the Protagonist’s journey, his perspective on “intergenerational transmission of family dysfunction” and how he’s determined to stop that from plaguing his family. The story is neatly told from Zach’s( the protagonist) perspective. It’s a non linear narrative with characters virtually jumping off the page. The characters, their presentation and Mantin’s unique writing style offer readers a fresh and deep perspective.

“And God is in his heaven, and we all want what’s his.
But power and greed and corruptible seed seem to be all that there is…”

I saw her in the mid day.
Later her voice was on the phone.
She told me what she wanted.
I asked, “Are you still alone?”
She told me that she wasn’t.
But that the company wasn’t great.
I said, “Now imagine that’s forever…
And choose wisely who you mate.”

The sunshine left.
A shadow grew.
A heartbeat echoed.
I never knew.
The sun returned.
A shadow stayed.
I listened hard.
Strange music played.
Then a thought.
A smile grew.
Exactly the way
To remember you.

A large gaping mouth set upon this gigantic head… Held up by a tiny neck, unable to swallow those desires…
The horror! The horror!!
Now I have the visual of the narcissistic view. They fear they don’t exist…
