Story
Said they wanted story.
But the story wasn’t short.
In all, it’s pain and glory.
Was less story, more report.
I wasn’t in a giving mood.
My moods were out of sort.
Accusations that I was rude.
I am, too tall? I must retort.

Water
My mouth so dry that I can’t spit.
And I don’t like it one damn bit.
I need water that I can’t get.
To cleanse my soul before I’m lit.
Saw a light there in sky.
Said please, oh, please do not pass by.
Shed no tears. I couldn’t cry.
I’m left here. High and dry.
Feel so hot. My face is red.
Trying hard. Words be said.
Find my feet. Get outta bed.
Water water in my head.
My mouth so dry that I can’t spit.
I’ll have to rise I must admit.
A glass is here that I can get.
Waters here. I’ll take a sip.

Left The Road
I left the road for; I don’t know…
I just can’t remember what.
There was something about a bungalow.
Where all doors were sealed shut.
Saw some things you can’t unsee.
Still, others’ beauty froze.
The businessmen were gripped by need.
Put the profits up their nose.
Down trodden are filled with sorrow.
Don’t know which wolf to feed.
To survive? Beg, steal, or borrow.
Some say love is all you need.

Labors Song
I am working at retired.
However, the money is not the best.
The baby she’s needing new shoes.
And all the good times have moved west.
There’s a rumble in the ether.
There’s a storm cloud in the east.
The hunger pains have grown louder.
In the belly of the beast.
I have come to new conclusions.
I will work and stay there strong.
And stop this silly dreaming.
And learn to whistle labors song.

Frozen Tundra
I was lost on frozen tundra.
Above the track and in a train.
The announcements sound familiar.
Try not to listen once again.
I am moving with some travelers.
Must be on their way to work.
They are staring in their hands somehow.
It’s a kind of glitch in the matrix quirk.
No one much is talking.
Yet they have so much to say.
Reached out to the satellites there.
We were ignored there anyway…

A Change of Work
My mother referred to going on vacation to see her family as a ‘Change of Work.’
She recognized that there’s always work to be done and always there will be people that work falls to and others it doesn’t.
I appear to be one of those people who carries this load despite efforts in my younger life to avoid such tasks…
How I was made to feel guilt for my laziness with repeated lectures by the workers, and I find myself now saying similar things to my kid.
“Can you not do something to help?”
Which leaves me wondering if maybe I should try to break this cycle of griping and grief and just shut the fuck up and do what needs to be done? ?

Cross Purposes
I gave information that she wanted.
I passed it easy like bad air.
She spoke and said Hey Thank You!
You could have pushed me off my chair.
I zoned out lost in the moment.
Then she smiled and said my name.
A simple “Thank you, Dennis.”
Meant nothing; just a game.
I was playing at cross purposes.
Just some boredom that tree shook.
I probably should have let it go.
Like a thief, I smiled and took.
But hey, now don’t you feel much better.
Don’t you just feel all that love.
The next time when I give her NO.
I already know what that’s made of.

Overhead on a Toronto Street This Morning.
“I just got back, and yesterday at this time, I was standing at the corner of Broadview and 5th; screaming my head off… and I told him,’In the last 3 weeks, I’ve been to the middle east,, Toronto and New York City.l; and you haven’t left the park…”
I imagined the poor bastard she was talking to, who never realized spending Christmas in New York and Central Park was a crime, and no doubt he will read all about it on some social media account.
The more I listen, the less I want to talk.

Vacation Time
Vacation Time is over.
6:30 Monday Grind.
It’s cold here in the city.
The warmth is hard to find.
Ned the cat isn’t happy.
The kid is late for school.
I am going back to bed.
To dream The Golden Rule.
