It is peaceful now…
They are quiet now as the days grow shorter.
You can practically smell their fear in the long nights: they are unprepared for winter.
Who can blame them really?
It’s my favorite time just before Halloween 🎃

That day to day grind is what I signed up for…
I’m not complaining, I’m tired.
This to shall pass.
Stay the course…

5 a.m. on a Wednesday. No sleep to be had and I don’t want to get up.
Sometimes the next right thing is just getting up and facing the day.
I’m writing again which stirs up all sorts of shite from a sleeping past.
Maybe the best thing is to just go back to work where I don’t think or write…

If I didn’t cause it.
I don’t know the cure for it.
I don’t have any control over it.

The older the fiddle.
The sweeter the tune.
Don’t know who wrote that.
Probably left us too soon.

Friendship for me has always been a delicate thing…
Mainly because I haven’t had much experience in this fine art; I never learned the basics of how to make it survive.
I have lost them through ignorance and neediness beyond belief and I have returned this favor to others.
When my daughter was 2, her first full sentence to me was, “You and I are like best friends…”
I will hold onto this one.

David came by today.
I don’t get many visitors.
Life in the city is like that.
We talked about writing and books and the Absurdity of life as lived by some.
I needed this!
A discussion with a like minded adult.
I mailed a painting to California today; titled ‘The Ocean. ‘

This is the goal.
Routine.
Shower, dress, pray if you will, eat, catch the bus, go to school.
Takes about a week to establish after a wonderful drama free beach summer.

When Dean Wormer told Mr. Horfman in ‘Animal House,’Drunk fat and stupid is no way to go through life boy.’ I listened!
It took me a while to put it into practice, but… I heard!
17 Years Sober!

She said, “When I’m an adult I won’t forget what it’s like to be a kid.”
“Are you sure?” I asked.
“That’s why I will be a good mother… I will know what it’s like to be a kid and not overreact to the small stuff.”
“I remember what it’s like to be a kid, and I still overreact sometimes.”
“You’re a good Dad.”
