Most times all it takes is a smile.
Delusional hope will follow.
The world will once again be a thing of joy.
Oh it’s not as bad as it used to be.
Now I just nod and walk away and say thank you!
Do women truly know their powers?

Charles Bukowski is credited with asking one of my favorite questions…
“Do you remember who you were before the world told you, who you were supposed to be?”
‘They never told me who to be. The world didn’t care enough, which by omission made me very lucky.’

I’m so sorry that I’ve enjoyed all this pain and your generosity knows no limits…
You peddle the pain you know, for this is all you have.
I appreciate my life so much more in the delights, that I am and never will be you.
It’s the little things I enjoy now.

Things are different now: And it has little to do with all the masked faces or people staring into their palms and the world wide web…
It has to do with how little I care with anything, that doesn’t have to do with me or mine.
How I used to despise this type of selfishness I now refer to as maturity.
I feel like I’ve arrived! A day late and a dollar short.

Sleep comes easy now…
Fading under quilts beneath November showers.
This will pass amidst some new unforseen drama brewing in the ether of time.
I will wait patiently.

I cured my anger with time and understanding.
I never hated, which for me is fortuitous; since for this there is no cure.

It’s a 5 minute walk to the best coffee in the city.
This is what I heard on that morning walk this Remembrance Day… A man on a bike yelling and then whistles, “Just shoot me why don’t you? Just shoot me!!
He stopped his bike long enough to get a cigarette lit before exclaiming, “I’m not going to kill the bitch, I’m going to hire some bitch to kill the bitch…”
At the final red light before the coffee shop a woman smoking a cigarette said to another woman, “So what are the workouts like there?”
I can’t make this shite up.
I remember the sacrifice that allows for such horseshit to be uttered and cringe…

Charles Bukowski asked, “Do you remember who you were before they told you who to be?”
My daughter turns 10 this week and is struggling to maintain the ideal she has of herself amidst the growing expectations placed on her in the name of ‘growing up.’
I told her I’m aware of her pains and struggles and I will help her remember who she is now and who she has been up until now.
She seems relieved despite the the fact that I’ve made the RULE, no more drawing in school other than art classes. You must learn what they are trying to teach you. Then we go back to art and drawing.
Because we have trust, she knows I’m telling her the truth and not selling her the goods.
Happy Birthday Zylia! It is an honor to be your friend and father.

Are these failures to many to count? Or just too painful to remember?
Having failed to act with patience in moments of injustice from those I have encountered; in this I have sought virtues?
If I desire true honesty then I ought to have more kindness and compassion with less judgment of those who chose a different path.
