The Imbellic Urge

Bukowski referred to his need to write as his imbellic urge. He wasn’t at war with the process. He needed to do it or he felt sick. His point was that he didn’t do it for money. Charles had more self awareness than most I believe.

I’ve been doing this for over 50 years now and I have never tried to get money for it. This is about to change…

I have a finished novel, and a treatment and screenplay will be in the hands of others soon. I have this Imbellic Urge to be paid.

The Ferry Wait

The Ferry left the mainland.

Left us on the shore behind.

She said she wasn’t in a hurry.

The Wait she didn’t seem to mind.

The air was damp and salty.

The Wait was long and pure.

We were headed to the island.

On our east coast Celtic Tour.

I

I have never woken up and thought…

‘I am not going to make it through this day.’

What an odd and terrorizing thought that must be.

I’ve been reading Bukowski quotes again.

I am on vacation and have recovered sufficiently enough to begin writing. It took 10 full days this time.

Today we just ate and shopped and visited and talked and ate some more. It’s been a lovely time however I wouldn’t want to make this luxury a habit.

I think it might be time to get into shape.

It is late afternoon and we are going to eat again.
