I am working at retired.
However, the money is not the best.
The baby she’s needing new shoes.
And all the good times have moved west.
There’s a rumble in the ether.
There’s a storm cloud in the east.
The hunger pains have grown louder.
In the belly of the beast.
I have come to new conclusions.
I will work and stay there strong.
And stop this silly dreaming.
And learn to whistle labors song.

Beautiful!

Yes, I’m from Toronto. My favorite author is from your area- Jim Thompson. Have you ever read his work?

I have not. I just looked his name up, and I see he has written a lot of books. I need to check that out.

There’s a wonderful biography called Savage Art by Robert Polito on the life of Jim Thompson and will provide you with a wonderful window into the Oklahoma Territory from about 1900 going forward…

Thompson wrote about a small town sheriff who was a serial killer. Interestingly his father was a small town sheriff and there relationship was very complicated.
There’s a kind of resurgence in Thompsons work right now who did not get the recognition he deserved during his lifetime.
