Cross Purposes

I gave information that she wanted.

I passed it easy like bad air.

She spoke and said Hey Thank You!

You could have pushed me off my chair.

I zoned out lost in the moment.

Then she smiled and said my name.

A simple “Thank you, Dennis.”

Meant nothing; just a game.

I was playing at cross purposes.

Just some boredom that tree shook.

I probably should have let it go.

Like a thief, I smiled and took.

But hey, now don’t you feel much better.

Don’t you just feel all that love.

The next time when I give her NO.

I already know what that’s made of.
